Get Creative (GC) studio tutor, Jane Whitfield, does with youngsters at the Port Macquarie Spotlight store. Jane is one of the most popular teachers around and, besides her work with us, also runs her own businesss called Drawn to Art, plus she teaches art classes for gifted children at various primary schools where she lives. She also teaches adult classes at the GC studio and at a community college.
The project she has kindly produced for us is one that the children produce on canvas during her class. Jane has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and has worked in the professional gallery scene as well as in retail.

School holiday classes with Jane are always booked up in advance. She loves teaching kids art and says she finds these junior students enthralling because she has the opportunity to watch their confidence and self esteem develop as they work. “I believe this confidence and ability to express themselves translates into a lot of other areas of life,” says Jane.

School holiday classes at the GC studio involve three-hour classes where Jane takes her students, step-by-step, through the creation of a painting,
encouraging their own interpretations along the way.

“The emphasis is on fun,” says Jane. “But the kids who come really want to be here. They’re like me when I was a kid. They want to get stuck into it!”
