Problems
Topic started by DemonChild on Nov. 25, 2009
I have discovered crotcheting over the last couple of years, and have come across a small problem - there are many many patterns available for knitters in the shops, but I can only find crotcheting patterns online. These patterns are great, but it is hard to find the wool used in them (unless you want to pay over $10.00 per ball) - is there a good way to find out what the best alternatives are?

Also I am having a problem shifting from easy patterns for scarves etc to more advanced patterns for other clothing - does anyone have any idea the best way to advance my abilities?

Mathematician Solves Age Old Problem with Crochet
Topic started by patriciaellen55 on July 7, 2011
Science Writer and academic Margaret Wertheim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Wertheim) [en.wikipedia.org] has used the womanly art of crochet to solve an age old problem in an area of mathemaics called hyperbolic geometry, notoriously difficult to model, by using crochet.
Yes crochet.  http://crochetcoralreef.org/ [crochetcoralreef.org]
You can even crochet a model of a coral reef.  The underlying mathematics of how a coral reef can be modelled work so well using crochet that it can be pretty hard to see the difference in pictures.  Here's an exhibition they had at the Powerhouse Museum a couple of years ago:

This site has free patterns:

Just shows we girls need to stand up and be counted for the complexity of our creativity.

Cardellino Flower Scarf
Topic started by deb64 on Aug. 17, 2010
I recently picked up this scarf pattern from spotlight (free pattern), i thought i was following the pattern correctly but i must be doing something wrong because it doesn't look anything like the picture. The crocheting in the picture looks quite tight but mine has huge gaps all the way through it, they say use a size 9.00mm hook which itself is big so i don't know how they got the crocheting so small. Has anyone made this scarf successfully who could help me?
Pattern Errors
Topic started by losescrew on Aug. 10, 2010
I am trying to crochet a pure wool throw for my daughters 18th birthday. This is at the end of August so I am running out of time. The pattern I have is from a Charmed Knits book purchased at Spotlight. It is in various shades of pink  and has heart motifs. One of the panels that has heart shapes in the pattern seems to have an error in it. I am going crazy trying to work it out. Has anyone else made this blanket and if so HELP!
