I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what their favourite cake is? I can't make up my mind.
Cake Impressions
Topic started by Danni85 on Jan. 28, 2011
I have been wanting to buy myself new cake decorating tools but find that no matter where I look everything cost too much so I started looking at regular craft tools to do the same thing.
I found the past week that a normal stamp you would use for card making or scrapbooking can be used to put impressions on cakes ( Fondat/white rolled out icing)
I'm about to make an engagement cake and was asked to try putting the design picture from their invites on the cake. I managed to find a stamp that looked like the floral picture and did a test run. It worked great. It's cheap and by collecting stamps I will be able to build up my decorating kit without braking the bank :)
There are also ideas like using lace paper to make a print/designs on cakes by laying the paper over the cake and spreading icing over the top so the gaps in the paper are covered/filled in and then remove the paper to see your cake design. It's a cheap stencil idea.
There are so many basic craft tools you can use as a cake decorating tool :)
Writing on Cupcakes
Topic started by Amanda72 on Nov. 26, 2009
Can't believe I hadn't thought of it before, but I was in a hurry and didn't have time to colour icing. So I grabbed some of my pre-mixed fondant creme filling (normally used to put in a chocolates to make a soft centre), I had the Strawberry flavour, warmed it slightly so it went just runny, filled up my icing bag and hey presto - I could write really easily on top of my cupcakes. The fondant then sets really hard but with a lovely glossy finish. I'm wrapped and it gave an extra sweet addition to the top of the cupcakes.
A revolution in Cake Decorating
Topic started by Amanda72 on April 11, 2010
A revolution in Cake Decorating is coming!  The cricut cake is amazing and I am blown away with what is can do. It will allow cake decorators (professionals and novices) to do everything scrapbookers have been able to do.   Roberts Confectionery www.robertsconfectionery.com.au [robertsconfectionery.com.au] will be selling the new machine.  It is truly fabulous.  More information will be released on the 14th April 2010.

My little boys 2nd birthday is coming up and his favourite character is Tigger so I'd love to make some Tigger cupcakes for him.But I'm alittle stumped on how to put Tigger's face onto a cupcake.I want to do something myself instead of a ready to eat picture as it's a special occasion.Does anyone have any ideas for me?
Thank you

    • Hi, I swear by this one - I originally found it on a website (can't remember which one now):

      150g softened butter
250g sifted icing sugar (I use pure but any type should do)
      1 tsp vanilla essence
      2 tsp hot water

Beat the butter and icing sugar until well combined. Add essence and 1 tsp hot water and beat until creamy. Add 2nd tsp hot water if required. You can also add food colouring to tint if desired.

      Hope this helps you.
