    • Hi, Ihave been making knee blankets since I learn't at 12-13yrs. I used to make lovely shawls with rose petals but haven't done those for a long time so forget now.....
I currently make the blankets to give to the church for homeless and aged care facilities.

I'd like to do some different things maybe next year, at the moment I am knitting more smaller items.

    • Dear AuntyDi
I am frustrated with a pattern I am doing from the Living with Yarn books purchased from Spotlight. The pattern is for a Marvel Shrug Coat with marvel meaning the yarn used in the pattern. The skill level of the pattern is rated easy and I am a fairly competent crochet person but I am stuck with this one. The pattern starts at the sleeve edge on the wrist and works it way along the arm, but then I get to a certain point in the pattern where it says 'To start the other sleeve, fold in half lengthwise'. This is where I get stuck I don't understand what the pattern wants me to do, does anyone have an idea. I will try and load a picture of the pattern in my photos if anyone can look and tell me what to do to get this done. I dearly want to finish this for my daughter.

    • Hi there, i sooo hope you can help me. desperate to work out what i am not understanding with my recent project.

i have a moda vera wisp pattern that came with the yarn. i do not understand the instructions. it is a crochet wrap called a Wisp Wrap. The concern i have is with the reference to "turn"

      the pattern says as follows:
Rows 2 & 3: 5ch, turn. problem is that if its 5 chains after each other they arent attached to anything to turn to make a difference...or am i missing something?

is it something so simple i cant understand? i really wanted to make a beautiful black wrap. i was knitting one but my daughter pulled the needles out and the wool was impossible to find the dropped stitches in (right at the last few rows too ;-(

hoping you can help me auntiDi. the wrap does look beautiful when its finished.

    • G'day Aunty Di
I love crochet too. I think it's far more versatile than knitting, though I enjoy that sometimes. I've been doing a thing with crochet I haven't seen anywhere, but can't believe no one has thought of. It's working in rounds like Granny crochet, but with no holes in the corners. Makes a very smooth solid fabric.
I just start with a square and work double crochet along one side until I can't go any further. Then instead of turning OVER and working back the other way (which makes ridges), I turn the work 90 degrees, 1 ch, 1 dc into the same place as the last dc worked, and continue on the next side.
Have you seen this anywhere? I have pics and a project on my inspiration room.
      Thanks!
      Toni

    • I am constantly making doileys and then give them away to friends, with the quote 'another useless doiley to you to use'. I haven't made an afghan for several years that could be my project this winter.

    • Hi, I'm not on any other groups at the moment, but I have joined ravellry.com as well. I was wondering if anyone had a copy of a crochet pattern for making a hackey sack? I thought I downloaded a project sheet from the old spotlight website, but couldn't find it and they don't seem to be on the site anymore. I found a few on the internet, but I liked the one I saw on here. Any help would be great. Thanks

    • I am working on a shrug pattern at the moment with practice wool. With double crochet, it is easy to do when you have a foundation chain to work with. However when you have to work in a space (say a 5 chain space), do you put the hook through the space, bring the loop back and then just draw the wool through both loops? OR do you bring the loop through, draw the wool through it and then draw the wool through the two loops together? This is confusing.

    • Hi. I am hoping you can help me. I have a cute hat pattern that I would like to do for my new granddaughter but it is American. It calls for a size 5.00mm hook and 'medium weight I LOVE THIS COTTON' for one and 'worsted weight VANNAS CHOICE' for the other. Could you please tell me the equivilent in Aust. I have seen one site that says it is 10ply but that seems awfully thick for this particular design. Hoping you can help me.

    • I am a passionate lover and creator of crochet, having no difficulty whether in a good mood or not. I had no difficulty handknitting as a 5 year old, don't we all? And managed to pick up on both crochet especially as well as handknitting, including classes at my local store, needle nook in adelaide whcih has been a long lasting business in my local area. Handicrafts runs down my family line and its an equal a bonding experience does how to make an american quilt ring a bell or two? I"m soon to joiin as a member with crafts victoria as well as bec to establish my own home business and most excited about the support I"ve received so far.
