Beginner wanting to know to start??

Hi eveyone I just got my first sewing machine for christmas
& I'm interested in trying to make my own hand bags as
I have trouble finding my style of bags .
Any tipps on where i should start ??

Hi everyone welcome to the group.

I love making my own handbags. They are easy to make and save me so much money then buying my bags. I have a collection of bags which I have made. I love making just a tote bag in small and large sizes, how about everyone else?

- Hi Carla, They are really easy to make. Im not an experience at sewing but found the Simplicity patterns really easy to use. I must admit though I havent been able to advance myself from handbags and toys to clothing. But I like making crafts. You should try it???

- Has anyone made any of those bags that have a small handle and large handle that over lap each other to close it? If so are they really hard to make?

  I've been madly making bags for about a year now to raise money for a local charity. I love yours! I've been painting on mine to make them really "special" for sale. There are so many variations of bags. Every woman should have a collection!

  I have just made a new bag actually its like a triangle design hopefully I can get a picture put up on here of it. Its quite nice

- yes! i hate having the same bag as everyone else
  i love the fact that no one will have the same bag as me :)
  does anyone use patterns to make their bags?
  i've never used a pattern but i've made dozens of bags for myself and friends :)

- Hi Cassie, I have seen the pattern for the bag with a small and large handle. It can be found on the Martha Stewart website. She refers to it as the "reversible purse." She provides a printable template on the website. Hope that helps.

  I have started making bags for little girls out of little skirts from op shops and adding a denim handle made out of jeans material or cotton!
  The skirts hardly cost anything and they have some pretty cool designs on them!

- Guilty!! I have seen so many lovely handbags on Etsy and Ebay...all cost a fortune. My last bag made in PVC got raves as so many people thought that it was bought!
