Breast cancer doll

Inspired by Lumina’s Fat Quarters in Pink Tribute Exhibition, we’ve dressed dolly too.

Final Result

Materials

• pink challenge kit from Lumina Gallery (kit contains wooden dolly, pink fabric/lace remnants, pink silk Breast Cancer ribbon, name card for the pink dolly)
• matching thread
• scissors
• sewing machine or hand needle

Other than the dolly and the pink silk Breast Cancer ribbon you may use all or none of the materials enclosed in the kit. We used both pieces of fabric then added some of our own supplies:

• light pink & bright pink paint
• paint brush & palette
• pink self-adhesive rhinestones
• pink beads
• small pink faux flowers
• pink brads
• pink ribbons & trims
• hat elastic
• pink memory wire
• pink yarn & crochet hook
• glue gun & glue sticks

Step 1

Paint the head and the hands light pink and the shoes bright pink and set aside to dry. Take the large piece of fabric and turn under one long edge twice and stitch. Stitch ribbon and trim along the hem. Fold the fabric in half right sides together and sew the back seam. Turn top edge over twice, leaving a small opening at the seam to thread hat elastic through. Place skirt on doll, pull elastic firmly and tie off.

Step 2

For the top take the smaller piece of fabric, turn under one long edge twice and stitch. Fold the fabric in half right sides together and sew back seam. Turn top edge over twice, leaving a small opening at the seam to thread hat elastic through. Place on doll,
mark opening for armholes and cut small slits. Place arms through holes and pull neck elastic firmly and tie off.

Step 3

Crochet a small hat and attach small flowers using brads. Make face and add self-adhesive rhinestones to skirt, shoes and around wrist for bracelet. Wind memory wire around waist and thread beads onto ends. Wind yarn around neck for scarf and attach pink silk Breast Cancer ribbon to skirt.
