Project

Lauren’s necklace

By Spotlight

A 'get creative' intern has been full of bright ideas. Try this intermediate beading project that combines some of her favourite techniques.
Final Result
Materials
• glass beads of various shapes & sizes in similar shades of colours)
• small charms or trinkets
• 57cm large link silver chain & toggle necklace
• head pins
• eye pins
• round nose pliers
• cutting pliers
• bead board
Step 1
For the centre of the necklace thread beads randomly onto 4 or more eye pins. Using round nose pliers create a loop at the top. Leave this loop open to later attach head pins or a charm.
Step 2
Thread beads randomly onto head pins and using round nose pliers create a loop at the top. Attach to the eye pins in step 1. To add charms to the bottom cut the head off and create another loop at the end of the pin and attach the charm. Attach the pins to the centre of the necklace.
Step 3
Continue threading eye pins and head pins with beads varying the lengths of the pins so that the necklace remains longest in the centre, and gradually fans out at the sides.
Handy Hint
When choosing beads and charms focus on a particular theme, texture or colour scheme. For example, use wooden beads with tribal charms, or pearls mixed with vintage trinkets.
