By Spotlight
- Here Jhoanna Monte Aranez takes us step-by-step through one of her beautiful projects.
- Final Result

- Materials
- • white Sherpa Fleece for the body (alternatives include fake fur, polar fleece or felted wool)
• brown wool flannel for the face, ears & legs (alternatives include brown or grey nursery flannel, cotton or felted wool)
• pink felt for the ears & cheeks
• black felt for the eyes
• 30cm blue or pink velvet ribbon
• dark brown stranded cotton
• white stranded cotton
• embroidery needle
• hobby fill
• fray stop - Step 1
- Preparation of pattern pieces.
body: Cut 1 pair.
face: Cut 1 pair.
ear: Cut 2 pieces from the brown wool flannel for the outer ears and cut 2 pieces from the pink felt for the inner ears.
leg: Cut 4 pairs.
cheek: Cut 2 pieces.
eye: Cut 2 pieces.
Note:
All pieces already include a seam allowance of 5mm unless otherwise stated.
- Step 2
- With right sides facing, sew each of the 4 pairs of leg pieces together, to create 4 legs. Leave the top open for stuffing. Make a small cut in between the toes on each leg making sure not to cut into the seam. Turn each leg right side out and stuff with hobby fill.
- Step 3
- With right sides facing, sew a face piece to a body piece along the straight edge. Repeat for the other face and body piece.
- Step 4
- With right sides facing, sew an outer ear to an inner ear piece leaving the top open. Repeat for the other ear. Turn each ear right side out. Tuck the raw edges of the open top inside the ear. Using the pattern as a guide for placement, sew an ear to both sides of the body straight across the top of each ear ensuring that the top is sewn closed.
- Step 5
- Using the pattern as a guide for placement, sew an eye and a cheek to both sides of the face.
- Step 6
- Take one side of the body and lay down flat with right side facing up. Take the 4 legs and position as marked on pattern. Place the other side of the body on top, right side facing down, ensuring all edges are lined up. Pin in place paying special attention to the legs.
- Step 7
- Sew around the body leaving an opening as marked on the pattern.
- Step 8
- Gently turn the lamb right side out. Use the blunt end of a knitting needle or the blunt end of a pencil to gently push out all the curves, including the tail.
- Step 9
- Stuff with hobby fill starting with the face and head and moving to the rest of the body.
- Step 10
- Sew opening on the body closed.
- Step 11
- Embroider a nose and mouth on the lamb’s face. Tie Ribbon around the neck, trim off excess and apply fray stop to edges. If you are giving this lamb to a young child or baby, sew the Ribbon to the body of the lamb so that it cannot be easily undone or removed.
