Project

Needle felted brooch

By Spotlight

The beauty of this project is its versatility. Multiple roses can be grouped to create scale or individually pinned on bags, scarves, hats or even lampshades.
Final Result
Materials
• felt square - green
• felting needle & foam block
• merino rovings – multi colours
• needle & thread
• seed beads
• brooch back
• scissors
Step 1
Lay the green felt sheet over the foam block. Pick up a little of the pink merino roving and twist it into a loose thread (or use a wool thread that is loosely twisted) then lay a swirl of this down to form the rose. Needle the rose onto the felt sheet. Lift the felt sheet every so often so it doesn’t matt onto the foam block. Cut the rose shape out of the green felt square.
Step 2
Pick up a little of the green merino and lay this down to form the leaf shape. Needle onto the felt using the felting needle. Lift the felt sheet every so often so it doesn’t matt onto the foam block. Cut the leaf shape out of the green felt square.
Step 3
Sew the seed beads into the centre of the rose with the needle and thread. Sew the leaf under the edge of the rose shape. To finish sew a brooch back onto the back of the rose.
