Papier mâché hat box

Materials

• 14cm diameter cylinder papier mâché box
• 30cm x 30cm striped paper or cardstock
• Folk Art paint baby pink
• assorted ribbons & trims to co-ordinate with paint & paper
• paint brush
• double-sided tape or craft glue
• large needle
• scissors

Step 1

Paint lid of paper mache box pink and allow to dry. Apply another coat if needed, allow to dry. Attach ribbon around edge of lid using craft glue or double-sided tape. Make two holes in the top of lid using a large needle. To make handle cut ribbon on an angle, thread ends through holes and knot ribbon underneath lid to secure. Tie assorted ribbons around one side of the handle just above the lid. Cut paper in half into 2 x 15cm strips and attach to box, trimming and overlapping where necessary. Attach lengths of ribbon and trims up stripes of the paper. Place gift in box and carefully place lid on box.
