- To prepare your frame disassemble it and set the glass aside in a safe place. Mark the position for two holes that you’ll use to attach your tags to the frame. Drill the holes using a drill bit large enough so the hole can take a large book ring easily. Punch corresponding holes in three chipboard tags. Paint the photo frame with gesso and, when dry, paint with a coat of cream acrylic paint. Coat all tags with gesso and, when dry, paint with cream or black acrylic paint.
- Step 2
- Cover the front of the frame with scrapbook paper making sure to cut out the window in the front of the frame. Spread glue over the face of the frame and the back of the scrapbook paper and adhere, smoothing out any air bubbles. Cover the back of the frame in the same way. Cover the plate that holds the glass in place and the stand that supports the frame.
- Step 3
- Cut scrapbook paper to a size just smaller than the size of each tag and affix the paper to both sides of each of the three tags.
- Step 4
- How we decorated our mini book frame.
Main image
To fit a landscape photo into a portrait frame, cut the image from the photo and adhere to scrapbook paper. Apply other scrapbook paper and lace over the bottom portion of the image, trim to the frame size and place in position.
Reassemble the frame and glass. Affix a die cut crown shape on the front of the frame glass and a die cut scroll over the bottom corner of the frame.
Spell your pet’s name in rub-on letters. - Step 5
- Page 1
Trim the image and sand edges to distress. Affix the image over the top of a small tag and adhere both to the page. Attach a large photo corner over the bottom right edge of the photo and add layered felt flowers and a button. Create the title using Dymo tape and add a bulldog clip to the photo. - Step 6
- Page 2
Stamp a sheet of notepaper with a favourite stamp. Tear in half and affix a small tag behind the notepad paper.
Punch a hole through both shapes and loop some ribbon through it. Affix the papers to the page and add a photo on top. Write journalling on the page.
- Step 7
- Page 3
Trim a series of images and fix with staples each one overlapping the next. Adhere two large photo corners, one behind the topmost image and one over the bottom image.
Punch a flower and add a cardstock shape to the flower centre. Spell the page title in Dymo letters. - Step 8
- Page 4
Affix a 3cm wide strip of torn fabric across the tag. Trim a photograph to a mock Polaroid shape and affix to page. Apply a rub on swirl over the edge of the photo.
Make a dimensional flower from layered fabric flowers and fix with a flower brad. Spell the page title using Dymo tape.
- Step 9
- Page 5
Tear a sheet of notepaper, fix to the page and add a button to decorate. Fix the photo to the page and adhere an undressed chipboard flower shape over the image.
Handwrite journalling onto the notepaper and finish by stamping a bird half over the join between the notepaper and the page. - Step 10
- Page 6
Affix a large decorated sheet of notepaper to the page. Adhere two photos over the paper and handwrite journalling on the visible lines.
- Step 11
- Page 7
This is the left hand side of the photo frame. Staple two photos to a sheet of torn notepaper and attach the paper and images to the frame.
Using masking tape, tape a piece of ribbon to the page and handwrite journalling. - Step 12
- Assembly
To assemble the book, punch out any holes in the tags that have been covered by paper or other elements. Loop two book rings through the three tags and through the photo frame and close.
Finish by looping co-ordinating ribbons through the holes at the top of each of the tags. The frame will now stand on its support and the book pages can be opened or left closed as desired.
