- • 1.5m (2m) background fabric - A
• 1m (1.3m) green toile fabric - B (border 2)
• 30cm (60cm) pink toile fabric - C
• 1m (1.5m) green stripe fabric - D (binding)
• 1m (1.5m) pink stripe fabric - E (border 1)
• 1.7m (2m) floral fabric - F (outer border)
• 1.8m (2.1m) x 230cm wide backing fabric
• 1.8m x 250cm wide batting
• matching Gutermann cotton thread
• rotary cutter, mat and quilters rulers
• quilting pins, tape measure
• scissors, seam ripper
• quilters pencil
• hand needle
• sewing machine with 1/4” foot and walking foot
Quilt measures: 63 1/2” x 63 1/2” (161cm x 161cm)
Optional larger quilt: 78 1/2” x 78 1/2” (199cm x 199cm)
Note: All measurements for the larger quilt are shown in brackets. - Step 1
- Cutting
All strips are cut across the width of fabric unless otherwise stated.
From fabric A cut:
• Eight (13) x 37/8” strips, crosscut into 72 (128) x 37/8” squares.
• Four (6) x 3½” strips, crosscut into 36 (64) x 3½” squares.
From fabric B cut:
• Two (4) x 37/8” strips, crosscut into 18 (32) x 37/8” squares.
• Five (7) x 2½” strips, join together to make one long strip for inside border 2.
From fabric C cut:
• Two (4) x 37/8” strips, crosscut into 18 (32) x 37/8” squares.
From fabric D cut:
• Four (7) x 37/8” strips, crosscut into 36 (64) x 37/8” squares.
• Seven (8) x 2¼” strips, join together on the bias to make one long strip for binding.
From fabric E cut:
• Four (7) x 3½” strips, crosscut into 36 (64) x 3½” squares.
• Five (seven) x 2½” strips, join together to make one long strip for inside border 1.
From fabric F:
• Fussy-cut nine (16) x 3½” squares.
• Cut seven (8) x 5½” strips, join together to make one long strip for outer border. - Step 2
- Half-square triangles
Using quilters pencil draw a diagonal line on the reverse side of all fabric A 3 7/8” squares. Pair each with a fabric B, C or D 3 7/8” square. With right sides together sew a 1/4” seam along each side of the line. Cut along the line and press. - Step 3
- Create
• 36 (64) x A/B half-square triangle units (4 for each block)
• 36 (64) x A/C half-square triangle units (4 for each block)
• 72 (128) x A/D half-square triangle units (8 for each block) - Step 4
- Blocks
Arrange the half-square triangle units and 3 1/2” squares as shown and join
together in rows to create each block. Press.
This size quilt will have nine blocks (3 x 3) or the larger quilt 16 blocks (4 x 4). 
- Step 5
- Borders
Cut inside border 1 (fabric E) into 2 x 45 1/2” (60 1/2”) lengths; sew onto opposite sides and press.
Cut remaining border 1 fabric into 2 x 49 1/2” (64 1/2”) lengths; sew onto remaining opposite sides and press.
Cut inside border 2 (fabric B) into 2 x 49 1/2” (64 1/2”) lengths; sew onto opposite sides and press.
Cut remaining border 2 fabric into 2 x 53 1/2” (68 1/2”) lengths; sew onto remaining opposite sides and press.
Cut outer border (fabric F) into 2 x 53 1/2” (68 1/2") lengths; sew onto opposite sides and press.
Cut remaining outer border fabric into 2 x 63 1/2” (781/2”) lengths; sew onto remaining opposite sides and press. - Step 6
- To finish
Layer backing, batting and quilt top, baste together. Quilt as desired. Bind using the joined strips of fabric D. Sign and date your quilt or attach a label.

- All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed. 1/4” seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated.
