Street sign style

By Spotlight

Ready, steady, go! Polar fleece, the sewing machine & a few short hours are all you need to become the most popular decorator in the household.
Final Result
Materials
• 60cm x 150cm wide red polar fleece
• 40cm square white polar fleece
• black adhesive felt letters
• Gutermann sewing thread - white, red & black
• scissors
• pins & hand needle
• sewing machine
• tape measure/ruler
• hobby fill
Step 1
From red polar fleece cut - 2 triangles, each with all sides measuring 43cm and a strip 123cm long x 10cm wide. From white polar fleece cut one triangle with each side measuring 34cm.
Step 2
To make the words, ‘GIVE WAY’ stick felt adhesive letters onto the middle of the white polar fleece triangle. Topstitch letters in place 2mm from the edge of each letter. Pin the white triangle to the centre of one of the red triangles. Topstitch in place 3mm from
the edge of white triangle.
Step 3
With right sides together, sew the two short ends of red polar fleece strip together. Pin and sew the strip to outer edge of front triangle. Pin and the sew the remaining red polar fleece triangle to the other side of strip, leaving 10cm gap at base for turning out and for stuffing. Turn cushion right side out and fill with hobby fill. Hand sew opening closed.
Variations
Think about other road signs... speed limit numbers, railway crossings, even the ‘green man’ of traffic light fame.
Handy Hint
Don’t like road signs? Fear not. Consider making licorice allsorts, using pet’s names, favourite football players’ numbers, cuddly words like ‘sleepy’, ‘snooze’ or ‘slumber’, even days of the week. Seasonal versions could be made bearing the word ‘Santa’ or ‘reindeer crossing’.
