- Patterned hessian gets a makeover using colourful tassels.
- Final Result

- Materials
- • 70cm printed hessian
• 5 colours 8 ply yarn - pure wool or acrylic
• scissors
• large eye yarn needle
• sewing machine &/ overlocker - Step 1
- Trim hessian to straighten if necessary. Overlock raw edges then turn under and stitch or machine neaten edges then turn under and stitch. Turn ends again and stitch.
- Step 2
- For each tassel cut 6 x 15cm lengths of yarn and one 20cm length. Thread the yarn needle with the 6 x 15cm lengths and stitch through the end of the hessian 1.5cm from the edge. Pull through so half the yarn is on each side and remove the needle. To create a tassel, take the 20cm length and make a loop at one end. Hold this loop while wrapping the loose end around tassel just below the edge of the hessian about 6 times. Thread end back through loop, pull down tightly. Trim end and tuck into tassel to secure. Trim any uneven tassel threads.
- Step 3
- Repeat step 2 using all colours of yarn to create tassels approximately 2cm apart across both ends of the table runner.
