- Materials
- • 20cm each of following fabrics from Christmas Basics range - red/white stripe, red/white star, red with white spot
• 40cm white with red spot (includes back)
• Gutermann 100% cotton thread - red
• 2m x 4mm white piping cord
• Rotary cutter, ruler & cutting mat
• Pins, tape measure
• Scissors
• Iron
• Hand needle
• Sewing machine with ¼” foot
• 500g bag Hobby fill
Note: ¼” seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated. - Step 1
- From white with red spot fabric cut a 12½” x 25” rectangle for the back. From the remaining fabric cut four 2½” x 7” strips and one 2½” x 12½” strip.
- Step 2
- Cut these strips across the width of fabric – red/white star one 2½” strip cross cut into 1 x 12½” strip and 2 x 7” strips; red & white stripe two 2½”strips cross cut into 3 x 12½” strips and 4 x 7” strips; red/white spots one 2½”strip cross cut into 2 x 12½” strips and 2 x 7” strips and two 1” strips for piping.
- Step 3
- Cut the 7” star strips in half lengthways and sew to one side of white with red spot strip. Sew spot to stripe to then sew onto both sides of red/white spot strip. Repeat for the other end.
- Step 4
- Fold two red/white stripe 12½” strips in half lengthways and press. Sew the other 5 x 12½” strips together as shown then pin one folded strip onto each end. Pin step 3 on top of folded strips and sew together. Open out and press folded stripe over the end sections.
- Step 5
- Make piping using cord and 1”strips and pin around the edge of the front aligning raw edges. Stitch to front within seam allowance. Place back over front right sides together and sew around all edges leaving a 14cm opening on one long side.
- Step 6
- Turn right side out and press. Stuff with Hobby fill until desired fullness and hand stitch opening closed
- Variations
- Use Green and white fabrics instead of the red to create green and white cushion.
