Cut 2 x 2½” strips from each of the 9 Christmas prints.
From the red homespun cut 2 x 8½”squares.
From the green homespun cut 2 x 16” strips then sew the short ends together to make one long piece for the backing.
Trace the leaves, 2 each of the 3 sizes onto the wrong side of the heat n bond, with glue side down press onto the back of the remaining green homespun and cut out the leaves.
Make 6 yo-yos following directions on the Clover Yo-Yo maker.
- Step 2
- Applique Block
Peel the paper backing from the leaves, arrange on the red squares and press in place.
Carefully press the Clover Quick Bias around the leaves using the Clover Mini Iron, mitering the corners and working from the background to the foreground.
Repeat for other block.
Sew yo-yos in place to represent the berries and sew buttons in the centre. - Step 3
- Centre panel and assembly
Sew together 9 strips in colour order as per diagram.
Press seams towards odd numbered pieces (so your seams will interlock).
Repeat to make a 2nd strip of 9 fabrics.
Cross cut large strips into 18 smaller strips.
Layout 14 strips as per diagram.
Sew together the staggered rows.
Sew remaining 4 strips in the same way then unpick the middle section (see diagram) thus creating the two corner pieces.
Sew the corner pieces to the appliqué blocks and attach to the centre panel.
Using the mini iron carefully press diagonal rows of quick bias over all the seams working in one direction first then the alternate direction paying careful attention to the junctions and ends.
Extend the ends ½” over the edge so they will be caught in the side seams.
Trim the excess edges as per dotted line in diagram.
Place face down onto the right side of the backing fabric and cut backing fabric to same size, sew together with ¼” seam leaving an opening to turn.
Turn right side out and press with a pressing cloth.
Sew up opening.
Sign and date your runner or attach a label.
- Note
- All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed.
