Doily décor - pink rectangle cushion

- Recycle grandma’s doilies with ready-made or handmade cushion covers.
- Final Result

- Materials
- • two 34cm x 48cm rectangles of pink cotton fabric
• 30cm x 45cm rectangle crochet lace doily
• pink & white Gütermann sewing thread
• 40cm pink zipper
• 46cm x 46cm cushion insert
• hand needle
• scissors
• pins
• sewing machine with zipper foot
• iron - Step 1
- With right sides facing sew pink fabric rectangles together using a 1.5cm seam allowance, leaving a 40cm opening on one of the longer sides.
- Step 2
- Clip corners and turn right side out, press seams.
- Step 3
- Insert zipper within the 40cm opening and sew in place.
- Step 4
- Leave cover unzipped and lay flat. Centre doily on the front of the cushion cover.
- Step 5
- Pin doily securely in place on front of cushion cover only, making sure the back of the cover is not pinned.
- Step 6
- Beginning in the centre of doily, hand sew to front of cushion cover, working around to outer edges.
- Step 7
- Cut along one side the 46cm cushion insert, so it measures 46cm x 30cm. Re-sew the side of cushion insert by overlocking or zigzagging together.
- Step 8
- Place cushion insert into cover and zip closed.
- Handy Hint
- • Dye doilies different colours using fabric dye.
• If you don’t have any old doilies try the op shop, crochet your own or buy ready-made ones.
