By Spotlight

A small project with loads of potential; play with scraps, stitches, adhesives & more!
Final Result
Materials
• 20cm buckram (110cm wide)
• 20cm iron on pellon
• 20cm calico
• scraps of fabric
• Gütermann rayon thread - variegated & plain
• cotton lace in various widths for pockets
• Vliesofix
• 12 medium eyelets, punch & eyelet setter
• 50cm x 10mm grosgrain ribbon
• scissors
• pins
• tape measure or ruler
• sewing machine
• iron & ironing board
• glue stick
• optional - rotary cutter, cutting mat & quilters ruler
Step 1
Cut six 19cm x 13cm pieces of buckram and six pieces of the pellon each 19cm x 13cm. Iron one piece of pellon to one side of each piece of buckram. Cut six 19cm x 13cm pieces of calico and place each onto the pellon side of the buckram pieces. Sew to the pellon/buckram piece using a straight stitch 3mm in from the edge.
Step 2
Cut scraps of fabric and arrange as desired on each page covering most or all of the calico. If desired use Vliesofix to fuse the pieces in place.
Step 3
Using a zigzag stitch sew over the joins. Change to a straight stitch and sew rows of stitching across the piece on a slight angle. Repeat making six pieces in all remembering that this includes the covers.
Step 4
Cut each piece into two 8.5cm x 12cm pages.

Tip: Cutting is made easy using a rotary cutter, quilters ruler and cutting mat.
Step 5
To create pockets on some pages place lace across the page and stitch along the sides and bottom close to the edge.
Step 6
To create the tabs cut 24 pieces of calico 4cm x 8cm. Apply Vliesofix to the wrong side of 12 pieces. Remove the backing paper and fuse the remaining pieces to each. Cut 12 tabs 3cm x 7cm, fold in half and press.
Step 7
Arrange the pages in pairs. Glue folded tabs to the spine edge of one page of each pair so it sits 2cm from top/bottom edge and fold is 2.5cm from the edge. With buckram sides together satin stitch the two pages together around all four sides stitching the tabs into the edge. Repeat for all pages and tabs.
Step 8
Punch a hole in each tab, insert an eyelet and set. Stack pages in order. Cut ribbon into 2 x 25cm lengths and starting with the front top tabs thread ribbon through eyelets. Bring ribbon ends together, tie in a knot and cut off any excess ribbon. Repeat for the tabs at the bottom.
