FABRIC COVERED TISSUE BOX COVER

By Spotlight

Use some left over fabrics to add some style to a tissue box.
Final Result
Materials
Papier mache square tissue box cover
10cm x 55cm fabric for bottom section
8cm x 55cm fabric for top section
18cm x 18cm fabric for top (same as top section or contrast)
50cm lightweight pellon
1m ribbon
Craft/fabric glue
Pencil & ruler
Double-sided tape
Scissors
Iron
Small sharp scissors
Step 1
Cut a strip of pellon 14cm x 51cm and glue around sides of box. Cut a 12.5cm square of pellon and glue to the top. When glue is set remove the pellon from the opening using small sharp scissors.
Step 2
Adhere a strip of double-sided tape around the sides at the top of the box and remove the paper backing. Place the 18cm square of fabric over the top of the box and bring the edges of the fabric over the side sticking them to the tape. This holds the fabric in place whist you fold the corners. Fold the corners in the same way you’d fold the edges of a present and glue in place. Make a small cut in the centre of the opening then make multiple cuts from the centre to the edge of the opening (this creates triangles). Pull each piece firmly to the wrong side and glue.
Step 3
Fold the top edge of the top section fabric 1cm to the wrong side and press. Fold one end 2cm to the wrong side and press, attach a strip of double-sided tape to the wrong side of the other end. Adhere the tape to the box with the folded top edge just below the top edge of the box. Wrap the fabric around the box keeping the top edge even. Overlap the folded end over the taped end and glue down.
Step 4
Trim the top edge of the bottom section fabric. Fold one end 2cm to the wrong side and press; attach a strip of double-sided tape to the wrong side of the other end. Adhere the tape to the box with the top edge just overlapping the bottom edge of the top section. Wrap the fabric around the box keeping the top edge even. Overlap the folded end over the taped end and glue down. Take the bottom edge of the fabric under to the wrong side and glue.
Step 5
Cut a 52cm length of ribbon and glue around the fabric overlap. tie a bow with the remaining ribbon and glue to centre of the ribbon at the front of the box.
