- Materials
- • Christmas fabrics in designs of choice
• non-woven iron-on interfacing - 415H
• matching Gütermann thread
• Vliesofix or fusible web
• Avery Printable Fabric (cotton x 5 sheets)
• computer & ink jet printer
• template plastic
• scissors
• sewing machine
• iron
• appliqué mat or baking paper
• hole punch
• eyelets & eyelet setting tool
• cord or ribbon
• optional - rotary cutter, cutting mat & quilters ruler - Step 1
- Cut 2 x 25cm squares of interfacing and 2 x 25cm squares of fabric.
Note: Use the same fabric on both sides or to create two different tags use a second fabric for one side; alternatively one side could be a plain homespun. Fuse one square of interfacing to each square of fabric. - Step 2
- Cut 1 x 25cm square of Vliesofix or fusible web. With one of the squares fabric side down place the square of Vliesofix on top, paper side up and using the iron, fuse to the interfacing. Remove the paper backing, place the remaining fabric square right side up and fuse to the first square to create a double-sided square of fabric with two layers of interfacing between. Using a straight stitch (or zigzag), stitch randomly across the square of fabric.
- Step 3
- Draw a tag shape onto a piece of clear template plastic and cut out. Trace around this tag template onto the stitched fabric and cut out.
- Step 4
- Starting along one long side satin stitch around all edges. Punch a hole at the top and attach an eyelet.

- Step 5
- Using the computer set out a page of tags ready for printing. Test print on plain paper to check placement before printing onto fabric. Check the recommended printer settings on the list enclosed in the pack and print on the matte fabric side as the glossy side is the heat-seal backing. Set aside to allow ink to dry completely.

- Step 6
- When dry trim image to desired dimensions. With iron on cotton setting (medium high to high heat) preheat for 5 minutes. Do not use steam. Place printed fabric onto back of tag and press for 5 seconds making sure all areas are completely sealed.
Note: Printed fabric can be sewn on instead of ironed on if desired. Thread with ribbon or cord and attach to your gifts.
- Handy Hint
- Using a rotary cutter and quilters ruler makes cutting out the squares quick and easy. Use a small rotary cutter to cut out the tags.
- Handy Hint
- Cover the ironing board and your project with an appliqué mat or baking paper to prevent any adhesive sticking to the iron or the ironing board.
