Needles
A pair 4.50mm (US 7), (UK 7) Knitting Needles or size
that gives correct tension/gauge.
Materials
A Yarn Needle; 8 Buttons.
TENSION/gauge
20 sts and 29 rows to 10 cm/4 ins over patt, using 4.50mm (US 7), (UK 7) Knitting Needles.
Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential for a successful handknit. - Step 1
- Back
Using 4.50mm (US 7), (UK 7) Needles, cast on 51 (57-63) sts.
Beg patt - 1st row (RS) - Knit.
2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
Last 2 rows form patt.
Work a further 40 (52-58) rows patt.
Note - If your row tension is correct the length of your work
should measure approx 14 (18.5-20.5) cms/5 1/2 (7 1/2-8)
ins.
Shape raglan armholes - Keeping patt correct, cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows = 47 (53-59) sts.
Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 4th row until 37 (43-47) sts rem, then in every foll alt row
until 21 (23-25) sts rem.
Work 1 row patt. Cast/bind off rem sts loosely knitways. - Step 2
- Left Front
Using 4.50mm (US 7), (UK 7) Needles, cast on 35 (39-43) sts.
Beg patt - Work 42 (54-60) rows patt as for Back.
Shape raglan armhole - Keeping patt correct, cast off 2 sts at beg of next row = 33 (37-41) sts.
Dec one st at raglan edge in 2nd row, then in every foll
4th row until 28 (32-35) sts rem, then in every foll alt
row until 25 (27-31) sts rem.
Shape neck - 1st row (WS) - Cast/bind off 11 (13-13)
sts, patt to end = 14 (14-18) sts.
Dec one st at raglan edge in next row, then in every foll
alt row 4 (4-6) times, at the same time dec one st at
neck edge in every row 7 (7-9) times = 2 sts.
Next row - Patt 2, turn. K2tog. Fasten off. - Step 3
- Right Front
Using 4.50mm (US 7), (UK 7) Needles, cast on 35 (39-
43) sts.
Beg patt - Work 14 (18-20) rows patt as for Back.
Next row (RS) - Patt 3, cast/bind off 2 sts, patt 11 (13-
15), cast/bind off 2 sts, patt to end.
Next row - Patt to last 14 (16-18) sts, turn, cast on 2
sts, turn, patt 11 (13-15), turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, patt
3 = 2 buttonholes.
Work 14 (18-20) rows patt, then rep buttonhole rows
once.
Work 11 (15-17) rows patt. - Step 4
- Shape raglan armhole - Keeping patt correct, cast off 2
sts at beg of next row = 33 (37-41) sts.
Dec one st at raglan edge in next row = 32 (36-40) sts.
Work 1 row patt, then rep buttonhole rows once.
Cont in patt, dec one st at raglan edge in next row, then
in every foll 4th row until 28 (32-35) sts rem, sizes 6
and 12 months only - then in every foll alt row until
(30-34) sts rem.

Next row - Patt 3, cast/bind off 2 sts, patt 11 (13-15),
cast/bind off 2 sts, patt to last 2 sts, K2tog.
Next row - Patt to last 14 (16-18) sts, turn, cast on 2
sts, turn, patt 11 (13-15), turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, patt
3 = 8 buttonholes in total.
Dec one st at raglan edge in next row = 26 (28-32) sts.
Work 1 row patt.
Shape neck - 1st row (RS) - Cast/bind off 11 (13-13)
sts, patt to last 2 sts, K2tog = 14 (14-18) sts.
Work 1 row patt.
Dec one st at raglan edge in next row, then in every foll
alt row 4 (4-6) times, at the same time dec one st at
neck edge in every row 7 (7-9) times = 2 sts.

- Sleeve (make 2)
Using 4.50mm (US 7), (UK 7) Needles, cast on 27 (29-31)
sts.
Knit 13 rows garter st (1st row is wrong side), inc 2 sts
evenly across last row = 29 (31-33) sts.
Beg patt - Work in patt as for Back and working extra
sts into patt, inc one st at each end of 3rd row, then in
every foll alt (4th-4th) row until there are 35 (39-37)
sts, then in every foll 4th (6th-6th) row until there are
41 (43-47) sts.
Cont in patt without shaping until work measures 13 (16-
19) cms/5 (6½-7½) ins from beg, working last row on
WS.
Shape raglan - Keeping patt correct, cast/bind off 2 sts
at beg of next 2 rows = 37 (39-43) sts.
Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 4th
row until 33 (33-35) sts rem, then in every foll alt row
until 5 sts rem.
Work 1 row patt. Cast/bind off rem sts. - Step 6
- Hood
Using 4.50mm (US 7), (UK 7) Needles, cast on 83 (93-
103) sts.
Knit in garter st (1st row is wrong side) until work
measures 7 cms/3 ins from beg, working last row on
WS and inc 6 (8-8) sts evenly across last row = 89 (99-
109) sts.
Beg patt - Work in patt as for Back until work measures 14
(15-16) cms/5½ (6-6½) ins from beg, working last row on
WS.
Shape back of hood - 1st row - Patt 44 (49-54), turn.
** Cont on these 44 (49-54) sts.
Dec one st at inside edge of every foll alt row until 40
(45-50) sts rem.
Work 1 row. Cast/bind off rem sts loosely knitways. **
With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts at inside edge,
K2tog, patt to end.
Rep from ** to **. - Step 7
- FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn in ends. Using
yarn needle and mattress st seam, join raglan seams,
noting that tops of sleeves form part of neckline. Join
side and sleeve seams. Join centre back seam of hood.
Using a flat seam, sew hood in position, beg and ending
at centre of fronts and placing any extra fullness to back
neck. Place right front over left front and sew buttons to
left front to correspond with buttonholes on right front.
If desired, with rem yarn make several pom pons and
atttach to top of hood. - Abbreviation
