How to - Use raw edge appliqué in art quilts

- This technique would most often be used for wall hangings and work that does not require washing.
- Materials
- • fabrics for appliqué pieces
• background fabric
• Vliesofix
• iron
• sewing machine
• darning or free-motion foot
• threads of choice
• scissors
• paper scissors
• pencil - Step 1
- Draw the base shape (tree branch) onto the paper side of the Vliesofix and repeat steps 2-4 as for raw edge appliqué above.
- Step 2
- Freehand cut the leaves or alternatively create a template of the shape/s or draw the shapes directly onto the fabric and cut them out.

- Step 3
- Take a Vliesofix off cut and separate it from the backing paper. Tear into very small pieces.

- Step 4
- Arrange the leaves on the branch. Attach each leaf one at a time using a small piece of Vliesofix under each and press to fuse in place.

- Step 5
- Using threads of choice stitch as desired.
