Knitted Christmas baubles

Why decorate like eveyone else this Christmas? Make your own baubles!

Final Result

Materials

• 1 x 50g ball each 'Moda Vera' Jazz - red & white
• 1 x 50g ball each ‘Moda Vera’ Flurry - red & white
• 1 pair 6.00mm knitting needles
• 1 pkt decofoam balls - 75mm
• Ribbon - red & white
• Star sequins & Pins
• Scissors
• Yarn needle

Step 1

BASIC PATTERN
Cast on 10 sts leaving a 20cm tail and work 2 rows of stocking st.

Shaping
Row 1: (K1, inc) rep to end... 15 sts.
All Even Rows: Purl.
Row 3: (Inc, K2) rep to end... 20 sts.
Row 5: (K3, inc) rep to end... 25 sts.
Row 7: (Inc, K4) rep to end... 30 sts.
Row 9: (K5, inc) rep to end... 35 sts.

Work 5 rows of stocking st, starting
with a purl row.

Row 15: (K5, K2tog) rep to end... 30 sts.
Row 17: (K2tog, K4) rep to end... 25 sts.
Row 19: (K3, K2tog) rep to end... 20 sts.
Row 21: (K2tog, K2) rep to end... 15 sts.
Row 23: (K1, K2tog) rep to end... 10 sts.
Purl 1 row.

Cut the yarn leaving a 30cm tail and thread through rem 10 sts.

Step 2

Make up
Hold knitted piece around decofoam ball with cast off edge at the base.
Pull thread to tighten, blind stitch together along the opening, then thread the yarn in and out along the cast on edge.

To close the top tie the 2 tails together.
To create a hanger tie off 10-20cm from ball.

Step 3

STRIPES can be added as follows:

Following pattern, work 4 rows each of alternating colours, ending with 2 rows in the first colour.

Step 4

TO DECORATE
Add ribbon bows, tassels of same yarn, sequins, or even wrap yarn around ball.
Secure with pins.
