Mystery Quilt: WEEK FOUR

WEEK FOUR features Texture.
Materials
The Quilt is made using Moda Vera Marvel 8ply (100g balls).
Step 1
SQUARE EIGHTEEN - MOSS TRIANGLES

You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of -
C5 - 1024 (blue)

Using 4.00mm needles and C5, cast on 45 sts.
Working from Graph for Square 18.

or written instructions as folls, work rows 1 to 76 incl.

1st row - * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Last row forms moss st.
Work a further 5 rows moss st (6 rows in all).
7th row - (K1, P1) twice, knit to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
8th row - (K1, P1) twice, purl to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.

Beg Patt -
9th row - (K1, P1) twice, K3, (P1, K7) 3 times, P1, K9, (P1, K1) twice.
10th row - (K1, P1) twice, P8, (K1, P7) 3 times, K1, P4, (P1, K1) twice.
11th row - (K1, P1) twice, K3, (P1, K1, P1, K5) 3 times, P1, K1, P1, K7, P1, K1) twice.
12th row - (K1, P1) twice, P6, (K1, P1, K1, P5) 3 times, K1, P1, K1, P4, P1, K1) twice.
13th row - (K1, P1) twice, K3, * (P1, K1) twice, P1, K3, rep from * to last 6 sts, K2, (P1, K1) twice.
14th row - (K1, P1) twice, P4, * (K1, P1) twice, K1, P3, rep from * to last 5 sts, P1, (P1, K1) twice.
15th row - (K1, P1) twice, K3, * P1, K1, rep from * to last 6 sts, K2, (P1, K1) twice.
16th row - As 14th row.
17th row - As 13th row.
18th row - As 12th row.
19th row - As 11th row.
20th row - As 10th row.
Rows 9 to 20 incl form patt.
Rep rows 9 to 20 incl until square measures approx 19cm from beg, ending with row 9.
Next row - (K1, P1) twice, purl to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
Work 6 rows moss st (as before).
Cast off loosely in moss st.

Your square should measure approximately 21cm x 21cm if your tension is correct.
You may need to adjust your needle size to achieve the stated measurement.
If square is smaller than stated try again using a 4.50mm needles, and if square is larger than stated try again using 3.75mm needles.
Step 2
SQUARE NINETEEN - MOSS TRIANGLES

You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of -
C7 - 1021 (brown marle)

Work as given for Square 18, using C7 in place of C5.
Step 3
SQUARE TWENTY - MOSS TRIANGLES

You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of -
C8 - 1023 (dark grey marle)

Work as given for Square 18, using C8 in place of C5.
Step 4
SQUARE TWENTY ONE - WOVEN TEXTURE

You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball each of -
C4 - 1006 (denim)
C1 - 1038 (duck egg)
wool needle for embroidery.

Using 4.00mm needles and C4, cast on 45 sts.

1st row - * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Last row forms moss st.
Work a further 5 rows (6 rows in all).

Beg Patt -
7th row - (K1, P1) twice, knit to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
8th row - (K1, P1) twice, purl to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
Last 2 rows form patt.
Work a further 50 rows patt (52 rows patt in all).
Work 6 rows moss st as before... 64 rows in all.
Cast off loosely in moss st.

Using running stitch and C1, embroider lines across rows as illustrated on Graph for Square 21.

Your square should measure approximately 21cm x 21cm if your tension is correct.
You may need to adjust your needle size to achieve the stated measurement.
If square is smaller than stated try again using a 4.50mm needles, and if square is larger than stated try again using 3.75mm needles.
Step 5
SQUARE TWENTY TWO - WOVEN TEXTURE

You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball each of -
C6 - 1026 (dark red)
C2 - 1005 (fawn)
wool needle for embroidery.

Work as given for Square 21, using C6 in place of C4, and C2 in place of C1.
Step 6
SQUARE TWENTY THREE - WOVEN TEXTURE

You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball each of -
C10 - 1002 (black)
C9 - 1001 (white)
wool needle for embroidery.

Work as given for Square 21, using C10 in place of C4, and C9 in place of C1.
