Mystery Quilt: WEEK SIX

- This is the final week of our Mystery Quilt, and in WEEK SIX: we are covering cables. Intermediate Knitting.
- Materials
- The Quilt is made using Moda Vera Marvel 8ply (100g balls).
- Step 1
- SQUARE THIRTY - SIMPLE CABLES
You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of -
C1 - 1038 (duck egg)
1 cable needle.
Using 4.00mm needles, cast on 45 sts.
1st row - * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Last row forms moss st.
Work a further 5 rows moss st (6 rows in all).
Next row - (K1, P1) twice, P5, inc in each of next 5 sts, (P7, inc in each of next 4 sts) twice, P5, (P1, K1) twice... 58 sts.
Next row - (K1, P1) twice, K6, (P8, K7) twice, P8, K6, (P1, K1) twice.

Next row - (K1, P1) twice, P6, (K8, P7) twice, K8, P6, (P1, K1) twice.
Next row - (K1, P1) twice, K5, (P2tog) 4 times, K7, (P2tog) 4 times, K7, (P2tog) 5 times, K5, (P1, K1) twice... 45 sts.
Next row - * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Rep last row 5 times.
Cast off loosely in moss st.
Your square should measure approximately 21cm x 21cm if your tension is correct.
You may need to adjust your needle size to achieve the stated measurement.
If square is smaller than stated try again using a 4.50mm needles, and if square is larger than stated try again using 3.75mm needles. 
- Step 2
- SQUARE THIRTY ONE - SIMPLE CABLES
You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of -
C2 - 1005 (fawn)
1 cable needle.
Work as given for Square 30, using C2 in place of C1. 
- Step 3
- SQUARE THIRTY TWO - SIMPLE CABLES
You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of -
C3 - 1022 (light grey marle)
1 cable needle.
Work as given for Square 30, using C3 in place of C1. 
- Step 4
- SQUARE THIRTY THREE - DIAMONDS AND BOBBLES
You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of -
C5 - 1024 (blue)
1 cable needle.
Using 4.00mm needles, cast on 45 sts.
1st row - * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Last row forms moss st.
Work a further 4 rows moss st, (5 rows in all).
Next row - (K1, P1) 7 times, inc in each of next 3 sts, P1, (K1, P1) 5 times, inc in each of next 3 sts, (P1, K1) 7 times... 51 sts.

Next row - (K1, P1) 7 times, K2tog, P2tog, K2tog, P1, (K1, P1) 5 times K2tog, P2tog, K2tog, (P1, K1) 7 times... 45 sts.
Next row - * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Rep last row 4 times.
Cast off loosely in moss st.

C7 - 1021 (brown marle)
1 cable needle.
Work as given for Square 33, using C7 in place of C5. 
- Step 6
- SQUARE THIRTY FIVE - DIAMONDS AND BOBBLES
You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of -
C8 - 1023 (dark grey marle)
1 cable needle.
Work as given for Square 33, using C8 in place of C5.

- The final image will be posted on Friday, 13th August 2010 - so you can't sneak a peak!
