Mystery Quilt - WEEK TWO

WEEK TWO: Stocking stitch and colour blocking (Intarsia).

Welcome back to the Mystery Quilt, We hope you enjoy the second week of knitting!
Materials
The Quilt is made using Moda Vera Marvel 8ply (100g balls).
Step 1
SQUARE SEVEN - STOCKING STITCH
Easy Knitting

You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of - C4 - 1006 (denim)

Using 4.00mm needles and C4, cast on 45 sts.
1st row - * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Last row forms moss st.
Work a further 5 rows moss st (6 rows in all).

Beg Patt -
Next row - (K1, P1) twice, knit to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
Next row - (K1, P1) twice, purl to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
Last 2 rows form patt.
Work a further 50 rows patt (52 rows patt in all).
Work 6 rows moss st as given in 1st row.
Cast off loosely in moss st.

Your square should measure approximately 21cm x 21cm if your tension is correct.
You may need to adjust your needle size to achieve the stated measurement.
If square is smaller than stated try again using 4.50mm needles, and if square is larger than stated try again using 3.75mm needles.
Step 2
SQUARE EIGHT - STOCKING STITCH
Easy Knitting

You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball of - C6 - 1026 (dark red)

Work as given for Square 7 using C6 in place of C4.
Step 3
SQUARE NINE - COLOUR BLOCKING (INTARSIA)
Intermediate Knitting

You will need a pair of 4.00mm knitting needles and 1 ball each of - C4 - 1006 (denim)
C1 - 1038 (duck egg)
2 yarn bobs.

Using 4.00mm needles and C4, cast on 45 sts.
1st row - * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Last row forms moss st.
Work a further 5 rows moss st, inc one st in last row (6 rows in all)... 46 sts.

Beg Instarsia Patt -
**Note - When changing colours in centre of row, twist colour to be used underneath and to the right of colour just used, making sure yarns are worked firmly at joins.

It is necessary to use a separate ball of yarn for each section of colour, although full ball can be used for first section.
To minimise tangles wind small amounts of yarn onto yarn bobs.

Unwind only enough yarn to knit the required sts, keeping yarn bob close to work.

Next row - Using C4 (K1, P1) twice, using C1 K19, using C4 K19, (P1, K1) twice.
Next row - Using C4 (K1, P1) twice, P19, using C1 P19, using C4 (P1, K1) twice.
Rep last 2 rows 12 times (26 rows in all).
Next row - Using C4 (K1, P1) twice, K19, using C1 K19, using C4 (P1, K1) twice.
Next row - Using C4 (K1, P1) twice, using C1 P19, using C4 P19, (P1, K1) twice.
Rep last 2 rows 12 times (26 rows in all).
Break off C1.

Use C4 for rem.
Next row - (K1, P1) twice, K18, K2tog, K18, (P1, K1) twice... 45 sts.
Next row - * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Last row forms moss st.
Work a further 4 rows moss st.
Cast off in moss st.

Your square should measure approximately 21cm x 21cm if your tension is correct.

If square is smaller than stated try again using 4.50mm needles, and if square is larger than stated try again using 3.75mm needles.
Step 4
SQUARE TEN - COLOUR BLOCKING (INTARSIA)
Intermediate Knitting

You will need a pair of 4.00mm needles and 1 ball each of -\
C6 - 1026 (dark red)
C2 - 1005 (fawn)
2 yarn bobs.

Work as given for Square 9, using C6 in place of C4, and C2 in place of C1.
Step 5
SQUARE ELEVEN - COLOUR BLOCKING (INTARSIA)
Intermediate Knitting

You will need a pair of 4.00mm needles and 1 ball each of
C8 - 1023 (dark grey marle)
C3 - 1022 (light grey marle)
2 yarn bobs.

Work as given for Square 9, using C8 in place of C4, and C3 in place of C1.
