Echoes of the Orient permeate the design of this beautiful quilt.

All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed. ¼” seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated. Read all instructions carefully before commencing the quilt.

Final Result

Materials

• 1.7m (2m) Chrysanthemums floral fabric
• 0.6m (0.8m) Tulips & Jonquils fabric
• 0.6m (0.8m) Green Leaves fabric
• 2m (2.6m) Black Homespun
• 1.5m (2m) x 250cm wide backing fabric
• 1.5m (2m) x 250cm wide batting
• matching Gütermann cotton thread
• rotary cutter, mat and quilters rulers
• quilting pins, tape measure
• scissors, seam ripper
• hand needle
• Sewing machine with ¼” foot and walking foot

Step 1

Cutting

Note: Chrysanthemum fabric is to be cut lengthways; all other fabrics are to be cut across the width of fabric.

From Chrysanthemum fabric remove the selvedges and cut -
• 1 x 8½” strip, crosscut into 6 (9) x 8½” squares (block centres)
• 4 x 6½” strips crosscut into 2 x 53½” (59½”) and 2 x 59½” (70½”) strips (borders).

From Tulips & Jonquils fabric cut -
• 9 (13) x 2” strips, crosscut into 24 (36) x 5¼” strips and 24 (36) x 6¾” strips.

From Green Leaves fabric cut -
• 9 (13) x 2” strips, crosscut into 4 (6) x 17½” strips (sashing), 3 (4) x 54”strips and 2 (2) x 39½” (57”) strips.

From Black Homespun cut 28 (40) x 2” strips, crosscut into
• 24 (36) x 2” squares (between 1st & 2nd black borders)
• 12 (18) x 8½” strips (1st black border)
• 12 (18) x 11½” strips (1st black border)
• 12 (18) x 14½” strips (2nd black border)
• 12 (18) x 17½” strips (2nd black border)
• 2 x 41½” strips (3rd black border on single quilt)
• Join the last 6 (10) strips together to make one long strip, crosscut into 2 (2) x 57” strips (3rd black border) and 2 x 59½” strips (3rd black border on double/queen quilt).

From Black Homespun cut 7 (9) x 2¼” strips, join together to make one long strip (binding).

Step 2

Instructions

Blocks - step 1
Sew a black 2” x 8½” strip to opposite sides of 8½” Chrysanthemum square, press. Sew a black 2” x 11½” strip to remaining opposite sides, press (1st black border).

Step 3

Step 2
Sew a 5¼” Tulips & Jonquils strip to opposite sides of a 2” black square, press. Make 12 (18). Sew these to opposite sides of Chrysanthemum/Black Square (step 1), press.

Step 4

Step 3
Sew a 6¾” Tulips & Jonquils strip to opposite sides of a 2” black square, press. Make 12 (18). Sew to remaining opposite sides of step 2, press.

Step 5

Step 4
Sew 14½” black strips to opposite sides of the square from step 3, press. Sew 17½” black strips to remaining opposite sides, press (2nd black border).

Step 6

Quilt top
Join blocks together in 2 (3) rows of 3 using the 17½” Green Leaves strips as sashing, press. Join the rows together with the 54” Green Leaves strips, press. Sew the 39½” (57”) Green Leaves strips to the top and bottom of quilt, press. Sew the 57” black to opposite sides of quilt, press. Sew the 41½” (59½”) to remaining opposite sides of quilt, press (3rd black border).

Step 7

Borders
Sew the 53½” (59½”) Chrysanthemum borders to the sides of the quilt, press. Sew the 59½” (70½”) Chrysanthemum borders to the top and bottom of the quilt, press.

Step 8

Finishing
Layer backing, batting and quilt top, baste together. Quilt as desired. Press strip put aside for binding in half lengthways and bind the quilt. Sign and date your quilt or attach a label.
