Pure Wool Drop Stitch Dress

Final Result

Materials

• ‘Moda Vera’ Pure Wool 8ply 50g balls as per size
• 1 pair 5.00mm knitting needles
• 2 x Stitch holders
• Scissors
• Yarn needle
• Tape measure

Step 1

Tension
17 sts x 24 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 5.00mm knitting needles.

BACK
Cast on 98 (116) sts, work 6 rows of garter st (knit every row), last row is WS.

Drop Stitch pattern
Row 1: Insert needle in first st, wrap yarn around needle twice knitways then knit the stitch.
Repeat across the row.
Row 2: Purl each stitch dropping extra yarn to form long stitch, 98 (116) sts.
Work 10 rows of drop st pattern.

Shaping
Cont in patt, dec 1 st at each end of this and foll 6th rows until 68 (86) sts rem.
Cont in patt without shaping until work measures 60cm from beg, ending with a purl row.*
Change to stocking st, work 30 rows.

Shape Armholes
Dec 1 st at each end of this and foll alt rows until 54 (72) sts rem.
Cont without shaoping until work measures 32 (34) cm from beg of stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Shape Shoulders
Cast off 7 (9) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Cast off 6 (8) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Place rem 28 (38) sts on a holder.

Step 2

FRONT
Work as for back until *.
Change to stocking st, work 18 rows.

Neck Shaping
Row 1: K33 (42) turn.
Row 2 & foll alt rows: Purl.
Row 3: Knit to last 2 sts, K2tog.
Row 5: Knit.
Cont dec at neck edge in every 4th row until 30 (39) sts rem.
Purl 1 row.

Shape Armholes
Dec 1 st at armhole edge in this and foll alt rows 6 more times (7 in all), AT THE SAME TIME, cont dec at neck edge in every 4th row, until 13 (17) sts rem.
Cont without shaping until work measures same as for back, ending with a purl row.

Shape Shoulders
Cast off 7 (9) sts at beg of next row.
Purl 1 row.
Cast off rem 6 (8) sts.
Place centre 2 sts on a holder.
Rejoin yarn to rem sts and work 2 rows.

Neck Shaping
Row 1: K2tog, knit to end.
Row 2 & foll alt rows: Purl.
Row 3: Knit.
Cont dec at neck edge in every 4th row until 30 (39) sts rem.
Purl 1 row.

Shape Armholes
Dec 1 st at armhole edge in this and foll alt rows 6 more times (7 in all), AT THE SAME TIME, cont dec at neck edge in every 4th row, until 13 (17) sts rem.
Cont without shaping until work measures same as for back, ending with a knit row.

Shape Shoulders
Cast off 7 (9) sts at beg of next row.
Knit 1 row.
Cast off rem 6 (8) sts.

Step 3

SLEEVES - make 2
Cast on 64 (73) sts, work 6 rows garter st.
Change to stocking st, work 4 rows.

Shaping
Inc at each end of this and foll 4th rows 3 times then in every alt row until there are 78 (87) sts.
Purl 1 row.

Shape Armholes
Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 18 (20) rows.
Cast off rem 6 (7) sts.

Step 4

POCKETS - make 2
Cast on 15 sts.
Purl 1 row (WS).
Working in stocking st, inc 1 st at each end of this and foll alt rows 4 times in all (23 sts).
Work a further 17 rows.

Top
Work 4 rows of drop st patt, then Row 1 once more.
Cast off purlways.

Step 5

NECKBAND
Join front to back at right shoulder.
With right side facing knit up 44 (47) sts down left neck edge, knit 2 sts off front neck holder, knit up 44 (47) sts along right neck edge, knit 28 (38) sts off back neck holder.
Knit one row.

V Shaping
Row 1: K43 (46), K2tog, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to end.
Rows 2 & 4: Knit.
Row 3: K42 (45), K2tog, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to end.
Row 5: K41 (44), K2tog, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to end.
Cast off loosely knitways.

Step 6

MAKE UP
With right sides facing, sew left shoulder seams together, including neckband.
Sew side seams to armhole cast off; sew sleeve seams, set in sleeves.
Weave in loose ends.
