• 30cm Boats light blue - fabric C
• 70cm Flags blue - fabric D
• 60cm Star stripe red - fabric E
• 20cm Texture gold - fabric F
• 80cm x 90cm batting
• Matching Gutermann cotton thread
• Rotary cutter, mat and quilters rulers
• Quilting pins, tape measure
• Scissors, seam ripper
• Hand needle
• Sewing machine with ¼” foot and walking foot
Note: This sew ‘n flip method of piecing will piece the front and back of the banner and quilt it all at the same time, so pressing after each seam is important.
Quilt banner measures: 25” x 30” (64cm x 76cm) - Step 1
- CUTTING
All strips are cut across the width of fabric unless otherwise stated.
From fabric A cut - 2 centre designs evenly from the panel 14½” x 19½”.
From fabric C cut - 4 x 2¼” strips.
From fabric D cut - 4 x 2” strips crosscut each strip into one 2” x 19½” strip (sides) and one 2” x 17½” strip (top & bottom); 1 x 3” strip crosscut into 8 x 3” squares; 1 x 2” strip crosscut into 8 x 2” squares; 4 x 2¼” strips, join together for binding and press in half lengthways.
From fabric E cut - 8 x 2” strips crosscut into four 2” x 27½” strips sides) and four 2” x 22½” strips (top & bottom); 1 x 1¼” strips strip crosscut into three 4½” x 9” pieces (tabs).
From fabric F cut - 4 x 1¼” strips. 
- Step 2
- Fold batting in half (length & width) to find centre.
Fold one fabric A block in half to find the centre.
Place A (right side up) over batting matching centres.
Pin in place.
Using narrow seam allowance, less than ¼”, baste A to batting along edges.
Using basting stitches as a guide, pin A block (right side up) to the back of the banner and pin in place. - Step 3
- Pin fabric D 2” x 19½” border strips to both sides of front and back of banner, right sides together matching raw edges.
Stitch both sides.
Note: This technique is a quilt as you go method as both front and back of banner are pieced.
When both strips are sewn, press outwards.
Pin fabric D 2” x 17½” border strips to top and bottom of both front and back.
Stitch and press outwards. - Step 4
- Make 4 strip sets - sew one fabric F 1¼” strip to one side of a fabric C 2¼” strip.
From each strip set cut one 22½” border strip and one 17½” strip.
Sew one fabric D 3” square to each end of the 4 x 17½” strips.
Pin 22½” borders to both sides of front and back of banner, right sides facing.
Stitch and press outwards.
Pin and stitch 17½” borders with corner blocks to top and bottom of both front and back.
Stitch and press outwards. 
- Step 5
- Sew fabric D 2” squares to each end of fabric E 2” x 22½” strips for top and bottom borders.
Pin fabric E 2” x 27½” borders to both sides of front and back of banner.
Stitch and press outwards.
Pin and stitch top and bottom borders with corner blocks to front and back of banner.
Stitch and press outwards.
Trim batting even with banner. - Step 6
- Tabs - Fold 3 fabric E 4½” x 9” tabs in half lengthways, right sides together and stitch the long side.
Turn right side out and press. 
- Step 7
- Fold tabs in half matching raw edges.
Align raw edges with top edge of banner, pin and baste in place.
Attach binding (fabric D), then flip tabs up and whip stitch to binding.
Hang banner and enjoy.

- All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed. ¼” seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated.
