Final Result

Materials

• ‘Moda Vera’ MERINO 50g balls as per size
• 1 pair 5.00mm knitting needles
• 1 pair 4.00mm knitting needles
• 4 x 19mm buttons
• Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Step 1

Tension - 20 sts x 27 rows to 10cm over stocking st using 5.00mm knitting needles.

BACK
Using 4mm needles, cast on 91 (99, 107, 115) sts, work 6cm of 1 x 1 rib as follows:
Row 1: (K1, P1) to last st, K1.
Row 2: (P1, K1) to last st, P1.
Change to 5mm needles and stocking st, cont until work measures 28 (29, 30, 31)cm from beg, ending with a purl row.
Shape Armhole
Cast off 3 (3, 4, 4) sts at beg of next 2 rows … 85 (93, 99, 107) sts.
Dec 1 st each end of this and foll alt rows 5 times in all … 75 (83, 89, 97) sts.
Cont without shaping until work measures 48 (50, 52, 54)cm from beg, ending with a purl row.
Shape Shoulder
Cast off 10 (11, 11, 12) sts at beg of next 4 rows.
Cast off rem 35 (39, 45, 49) sts.

Step 2

LEFT FRONT
Using 4mm needles, cast on 43 (47, 51, 55) sts, work 6cm of 1 x 1 rib as for back.
Change to 5mm needles and stocking st, cont until work measures 28 (29, 30,31)cm from beg, ending with a purl row.
Shape Armhole
Cast off 3 (3, 4, 4) sts at beg of next row … 40 (44, 47, 51) sts.
Dec 1 st at beg of this and foll alt rows 5 times in all, AT THE SAME TIME, dec at the end (neck edge) in this and every foll 3rd row until 20 (22, 22, 24) sts rem.
Cont without shaping until work measures 48 (50, 52, 54) cm from beg (same as for back), ending with a purl row.
Shape Shoulder
Cast off 10 (11, 11, 12) sts at beg of this row. Work one row. Cast off rem 10 (11,11, 12) sts.

Step 3

RIGHT FRONT
Using 4mm needles, cast on 43 (47, 51, 55) sts, work 6cm of 1 x 1 rib as for back.
Change to 5mm needles and stocking st, cont until work measures 28 (29, 30, 31)cm from beg, ending with a knit row.
Shape Armhole
Cast off 3 (3, 4, 4) sts at beg of next row … 40 (44, 47, 51) sts.
Dec 1 st at the end of this and foll alt rows 5 times in all, AT THE SAME TIME, dec at the beg (neck edge) in this and every foll 3rd row until 20 (22, 22, 24) sts rem.
Cont without shaping until work measures 48 (50, 52, 54) cm from beg (same as for back), ending with a knit row.
Shape Shoulder
Cast off 10 (11, 11, 12) sts at beg of this row. Work one row. Cast off rem 10 (11, 11, 12) sts.

Step 4

SLEEVES – Make 2
Using 4mm needles, cast on 71 (75, 79, 83) sts, work 10 rows of 1 x 1 rib same as for back.
Change to 5mm needles and stocking st, cont until work measures 7 (7, 9, 9)cm from beg, ending with a purl row.
Shape Cap
Cast off 3 (3, 4, 4) sts at beg of next 2 rows 65 (69, 71, 75) sts.
Dec 1 st each end of this and foll alt rows 5 times in all … 55 (59, 61, 65) sts. Then dec 1 st each end of every 4th row 4 times … 47 (51, 53, 57) sts, then every alt row 8 times … 31 (35, 37, 41) sts, then in every row until 8 sts rem. Cast off.

Step 5

BAND
With right sides facing, pin and sew shoulder seams using a back st.
Using 4mm needles cast on 12 sts, work 4 rows of 1 x 1 rib, starting each row with K1.
Buttonhole Row: Rib 4, yfwd, K2tog, rib 5.
Work 27 (27, 29, 29) rows of rib.
Repeat from buttonhole row, 3 more times, making 4 buttonholes in all.
Cont in rib, until work fits around right front, back neck and left front, with a slight stretch.
Cast off in rib.

Step 6

FINISHING
Using back-stitch, join side and sleeve seams. Pin and sew band around front and back neck edges. Sew in sleeves. Weave in loose ends. Sew on buttons to match buttonholes.
