- Materials
- 25cm x 50cm each spots & stripes fabric per flag
*5m x 20mm cotton tape (for 12 flags)
Gutermann thread – to match tape
Sewing machine
Rotary cutter, cutting mat & 12" quilting ruler
Template plastic
Pencil
Ruler
Scissors
Pins
Iron, ironing board
*33cm per flag + 1m for ends - Step 1
- Create a template for the bunting flags by ruling and marking a rectangle 20cm (8") wide x 24cm (9 1/2") deep. Find the centre point on one bottom short side (10cm/4") and rule a line from the centre marking to the each top corner to form a triangle. Cut out the template.
- Step 2
- From each fabric cut 2 triangles by placing the template onto the fabrics then cutting around the template using the quilting ruler and rotary cutter. Alternatively trace around the template and cut out using scissors.
We used 12 fabrics to make approx 5m of bunting. - Step 3
- With right sides facing sew the matching triangles together along both sides, turn through and press, leave the top open.
- Step 4
- Measure out a 5m length of 20mm cotton tape or length required. Fold and iron the tape in half lengthways. Measure 50cm in from one end of the tape and pin the open end of one flag inside the fold. Measure 33cm along the tape and pin the next flag into the fold. Continue until all flags are pinned into the tape. Secure flags in place by sewing along the tape close to the open edge removing the pins as you go and making sure to sew through the tape on the back. Sew along the edge of the excess tape at each end and across the ends to prevent fraying.
