- Materials
- Fabrics are from ‘Spots & Stripes’ range
• 50cm green/white spot fabric (includes border)
• 50cm red stripe fabric (includes binding)
• 20cm each red/blue/yellow/aqua/orange/pink/purple & white spot fabrics
• 20cm each blue/green/yellow/aqua/orange/pink/purple stripe fabrics
• 1.4m homespun in colour of choice for backing
• 1m x 1.2m Sew Easy cotton/bamboo batting
• Button
• Matching Gutermann 100% cotton thread
• Rotary cutter, mat & quilters rulers
• Quilting pins, tape measure
• Scissors, seam ripper
• Hand needle
• Iron
• Sewing machine with 1/4" foot & walking foot - Step 1
- CUTTING
All strips are cut across the width of fabric unless otherwise stated.
• From green/white spot fabric cut 6 x 2 1/2" strips, set aside 4 strips for border, crosscut 2 strips into seven 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips.
• From red stripe fabric cut 6 x 2 1/2" strips, set aside 5 strips for binding, crosscut 1 strip into six 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips.
• From each of red, yellow, aqua, orange & pink spot fabrics cut 2 x 2 1/2" strips, crosscut each into seven 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips.
• From each of blue & purple spot fabrics cut 1 x 2 1/2" strip, crosscut each into six 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips.
• From each of aqua, orange, pink & purple stripe fabrics cut 2 x 2 1/2" strips, crosscut each into seven 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips.
• From each of blue, green & yellow stripe fabrics cut 1 x 2 1/2" strip, crosscut each into six 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips.
Note: You should have a total of 105 (2 1/2" x 6 1/2") strips, 53 spots & 52 stripes.
BLOCKS
The quilt top is made up of 35 x 6 1/2" blocks – 18 x Block A & 17 x Block B. - Step 2
- Block A
Sew one spot fabric to each side of a stripe fabric (diagram 1). Press seams in one direction. 
- Step 3
- Block B
Sew one stripe fabric to each side of a spot fabric (diagram 2). Press seams in one direction. 
- Step 4
- Follow the quilt top layout (diagram 3) to arrange the 6 1/2" blocks into 7 rows with 5 blocks in each row.

- Step 5
- Sew the blocks in each row together. Press seams in one direction alternating the direction in each row.
- Step 6
- Sew the rows together matching seams. Press seams in one direction.
- Step 7
- Trim selvedge from 4 x 2 1/2" green/white spot border strips. Sew one strip to each side of the quilt. Press seams towards border and trim off any excess fabric. Sew remaining strips to the top and bottom of the quilt, press and trim off any excess fabric.
- Step 8
- Layer backing, batting and quilt top, baste together. Quilt in the ditch or as desired.
- Step 9
- Join the 5 x 2 1/2" red stripe binding strips to make one long strip. Press in half lengthwise and bind mitering corners. Attach a label or sign and date your quilt.
