Materials

• ‘Moda Vera’ BIRDSNEST 50g balls as per size
• 4.00mm crochet hook
• Scissors, yarn needle

Step 1

PEPLUM WAIST
Foundation Chain: Using MC work 193 [225, 257]
ch, sl st into 1st ch to form a loop, ensuring work not
twisted.

Rnd 1: 1ch, (1dc in next ch, sk 3 ch, 3tr in next ch,
1ch, 3tr in same ch as last 3 tr, sk 3 ch) repeat to end,
sl st into 1st ch.

Rnd 2: 4ch, 3tr in first dc, 1ch, (1dc in 1-ch sp, 3tr in
next dc, 1ch, 3tr in same dc) to end, 2tr in first dc, sl
st in 4-ch loop at beg.

Rnd 3: 1ch, (1dc in 1-ch sp at join, 3tr in next dc, 1ch,
3tr in same dc) repeat to end with a sl st into 1st ch.
Repeat Rnds 2 & 3, 3 (3, 4) more times. Then repeat

Rnd 2 once more. Fasten off.
Note: Last row forms shell hemline of peplum.

Row for Tie Holes
With Foundation Ch round of peplum at the top, determine
centre front.

Using MC, insert hook, draw up a loop in 3-ch sp, work
3ch, 2tr in same 3-ch sp. (1ch, 3tr in next 3-ch sp) repeat
to end of round, 1ch, sl st into 3rd ch of 1st 3-ch.

Step 2

BODY
Row 1: 1ch, 1dc in same ch sp, (3tr in next 1-ch sp,
1ch, 3tr in same 1-ch sp, 1dc in next 1-ch sp) to end,
1dc in 1st 1-ch sp. DO NOT JOIN. Fasten off.

Note: Garment is now worked in rows, with yarn cut
at the end of each row and next row commenced with
new colour on the RS centre front edge of each row.

Row 2: Using C1, draw up a loop in 1st dc, 3ch, 2tr in
same dc, (1dc in next 1-ch sp, 3tr in next dc, 1ch, 3tr
in same dc) to last dc, 3tr in last dc. Fasten off.

Row 3: Using C3, draw up a loop in 3rd ch of 3-ch,
1dc in same ch, (3tr in next dc, 1ch, 3tr in same dc,
1dc in next 1-ch sp) to end, 1dc in 3rd ch at beg of
prev row. Fasten off.

Row 4: (commence Neck Shaping) Draw up a look in
1st ch sp, 1ch, 1dc in same sp, (3tr in next dc, 1ch,
3tr in same dc, 1dc in next 1-ch sp) to end, 1dc in last
1-ch sp. Work is now half a pattern less on each side.
Last 4 rows form Stripe Sequence.

Cont in Stripe Sequence and patt as established dec
by half a shell patt every 6th row. Complete 16 [18,
20] rows in total.

Divide for Armholes

Back
Establish centre 12 [14, 16] shells for Back.
Note: Last row for Centre will be 11 [13, 15] + 2 half
shells.

Draw up a loop in 1-ch sp of right hand half shell.
Patt 12 shells, starting with 1ch, 1dc in same sp, ending
with 1dc in last 1-ch sp of last half shell.

Inc Row: Draw up a loop in 1st dc, 3tr in same dc,
1ch, 3tr in same dc. Patt to last dc, 3tr in last dc, 1ch,
3 tr in same dc, 13 [15, 17] shells.

Cont in stripe sequence and patt working a further 20
[22, 24] rows. Fasten off.

Step 3

Left Front
Draw up a loop in same 1-ch sp of left back at armhole,
pattern to end [end, half pattern less], fasten off.
Inc Row: Draw up a loop in 1st dc, 3tr in same dc, 1ch,
3tr in same dc. Patt to end.
Cont without shaping at armhole, AT THE SAME time,
dec by half a patt at neck edge every 6th row as established
until 3½ [4, 5] shells rem.
Cont in patt until there is 1 row less from armhole
compared to back. Fasten off.


Right Front
Draw up a loop at beg of [beg of , half pattern in] right
centre front, patt to end with a 1dc in same 1-ch sp as
back armhole.

Inc Row: Patt to last dc, 3tr in last dc, 1ch, 3tr in
same 1-ch sp.
Cont without shaping at armhole, AT THE SAME time,
dec by half a patt at neck edge every 6th row as established,
until there are 3½[4, 5] shells.
Cont in patt until there is 1 row less from armhole
compared to back. Fasten off.

Step 4

ARMHOLE BAND
Join shoulders with shell pattern interlocking.
Work 4 rounds of dc around armhole edge, working
2dc in the side of each tr, 1dc in the side of each dc,
working an additional 3dc at beg and end at the under
arm, sl st to join and form rounds.

Step 5

NECKBAND
With right side facing, work a row of dc around neckline,
working 2dc in the side of each tr, 1dc in the side
of each dc. Turn.
Work 4 more rows. Fasten off.

Step 6

TIE
Foundation Ch: Using MC work 250 [260, 270]ch.
Row 1: 1ch, 1dc in each ch to end. Fasten off.

Step 7

FINISHING
Secure front edges of band, right over left. Weave in all
ends. Thread Tie through holes.
