Final Result
Materials
• sheet of aluminium from soft drink can
• 10cm x 10 cm piece maroon fabric
• manila folder or index card
• Tim Holtz Distress Inks - Old Paper, Vintage Photo, Black Soot
• StazOn ink pad - Timber Brown
• A4 sheet light pink textured cardstock
• A4 sheet dark pink textured cardstock
• A4 sheet pale grey textured cardstock
• white script rub on letters
• 3 grey eyelets & eyelet setter
• rubber stamp - postcard or words
• cotton thread & hand needle
• foam sponge
• paper trimmer
• adhesives
• mini heart punch
Step 1
Using a mini heart punch, punch three hearts from a sheet of aluminium cut from a discarded soft drink can. The inside silver colour is what you’ll use so it doesn’t matter what pattern shows on the front.
Step 2
Cut three 2cm x 2cm pieces of maroon fabric. Using a needle and thread, sew a single stitch in all four corners of each of the three pieces of fabric. Leave thread ends showing on the top side of the fabric.
Step 3
Stamp a piece of manila cardstock with your postcard or word stamp using brown StazOn ink.
Step 4
Cut three 2.5cm x 8.5 cm strips from the stamped manila cardstock. Fold the top 1cm piece of each strip over and stitch the edge with needle and thread. Ink over all the edges of the pieces using Old Paper and Vintage Photo inks, and touch the edge with Black Soot ink.
Step 5
Trim grey cardstock to 14cm x 20cm, fold in half to make a card. From dark pink textured cardstock cut a 9.5cm x 13cm rectangle. From pale pink textured cardstock cut a 10cm x 8.5 cm rectangle. Ink the edges of all the rectangles with Old Paper, Vintage Photo and Black Soot ink. Attach the metal hearts to the centre of the fabric pieces using dimensional adhesive. Affix one piece of fabric to each of the sewn pieces of manila cardstock. Attach the manila cardstock to the pale pink card using the photo as a guide. Attach the pale pink card to the far left edge of the dark pink card. Apply rub on letters to spell the word LOVE to the right hand edge of the dark pink card. Attach the dark pink card to the front of the grey card. Punch small holes in the top left, top right and bottom left edges of the card and affix grey eyelets through the holes.
Handy Hint
Aluminium soft drink cans can be easily cut using sturdy household scissors and can be punched using a good quality paper punch. Use the metal punched shapes as embellishments on cards and in other craft projects.
