- I've been wanting to sew my own clothes for a long time now, but I'm... well, let's face it, I'm a clothes-sewing-chicken. I'm a HUGE fan of wearing skirts to work so when I saw Alli's [onepearlbutton.com] latest One Pearl Button sew-along [onepearlbutton.com] it seemed perfect. And now I'm signed up, geared ...

- Almost Christmas eve and I haven't bought or made anything for my partner... *sigh* Too busy painting and sewing carry and library bags to raise money for a local rural volunteer fire brigade whose (don't laugh!) shed and equipment burned down about 18 months ago. I've never painted much, but ...

- Do you need help
- If you have a question or need help with something in the way of sewing, post me a note and I will try and help you or steer you in the right direction.
- Great Gift Idea
- What fun I've had the past few days making baby shoes! These are very similar to an expensive brand thats available commercially for babies & toddlers made in leather.
All you need is some leather pieces or furnishing leather/ultra suede & about 30 minutes. I managed to make 4 pair in quick succession & had to stop before I made any more-the yet to be born baby will be grown out of them bore she gets a chance to wear them all!LOL
I found a free pattern on a site called tacky living & shrunk it on the printer.
A small machine embroidery on the vamp worked well on a pink ultra suede pair.
Lots more about them on my oz-tralien blog & I'll post some pics to my photo album here as well.
- Patterns
- How do you chose the right size pattern for you.
For tops. you go by your bust measurement. It is easer to take the sides in than to try and add bust to a top. You do not go by your clothing size.
And for pants you use your hip measurement.Once again it is easier to taper up to the waist than add size and shape to the pants.
Next , you check the easement of the pattern. If you don't want it as full as the pattern suggest the go down a size.
One thing to watch is the shoulders on a top. For some reason they think the bigger the bust, the wider the shoulders.
- Back to school
- Why not make a library bag with your child's favourite thing in all the world on it?
The bag takes approx 15 minutes to make. The decorating could be a great way to spend a holiday afternoon with the kids!
